Privacy policy
Last updated: October 23, 2026
Short version: your voice is turned into text on your Mac, recordings are deleted right after, and the app has no tracking.
What stays on your Mac
- Your voice. Speech recognition runs inside the app on your Mac. Each recording is saved to a temporary file only while it's turned into text, then deleted. Audio is never sent to us or anyone else.
- Your text. Transcripts are pasted where you were typing. The app keeps your last 50 transcripts in a History file on your Mac (you can clear it in the app).
- Your settings, dictionary, snippets and stats are stored on your Mac. Saved keys (your license key and any cloud AI key you add) are kept in your Mac's Keychain.
When the app uses the internet
Tap to Talkie has no analytics or telemetry. It only connects to the internet for these things:
| What | When | What is sent |
|---|---|---|
| Speech model download | When you choose to download a model | A normal download request to the model host (Hugging Face). |
| License check | When you activate or move a license, and at most once a day after that | Your license key and your Mac's name, sent to our payment provider, Lemon Squeezy. The app keeps working offline for 14 days between checks. No license checks are made during the free trial. |
| Update check | Periodically, only after you agree (the app asks before its first automatic check), or when you choose Check for Updates | A request to taptotalkie.com for the list of new versions, which includes the app's name and version, and the update download itself. |
| Cloud AI cleanup (optional, off by default) | Only if you turn it on and add your own provider | The text of your dictation is sent to the AI provider you chose, under that provider's terms. Audio is never sent. The app tells you this before you turn it on. |
Local AI cleanup (for example Ollama or LM Studio on your Mac) stays on your Mac.
Purchases
Purchases are handled by Lemon Squeezy, our merchant of record. They process your payment, email and billing details under their own privacy policy. We receive your name, email, the plan you bought and your license status, so we can send your key, answer support questions and process refunds. We never see your full card number.
This website
The site has no tracking scripts or ads. Our host (Vercel) keeps standard server logs, such as IP address and pages requested, for security and reliability. Fonts are loaded from Google Fonts.
If you email us, we use your message only to help you. We'll only send you product emails you've asked for, and every one has an unsubscribe link.
How long we keep things
Purchase and license records are kept as long as needed for your license and for tax and accounting rules. Support emails are deleted when no longer needed. Data on your Mac stays until you delete it or uninstall the app.
Your choices and rights
- Clear your History, dictionary and stats in the app at any time, or delete the app and its folder in
~/Library/Application Support/Tap to Talkie. - Ask us for a copy of, or deletion of, the purchase data we hold: support@taptotalkie.com. Depending on where you live (for example the EU, UK or California), you may have extra rights, and we'll honor them.
Children
Tap to Talkie isn't directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their data.
Changes
If this policy changes, we'll update the date above and, for important changes, tell you in the app or by email.
